Future-oriented production, use and recycling concepts are essential due to the importance of strategic raw materials and technology metals for economy and society.

It is therefore necessary to consider value creating systems and production chains from the extraction of raw materials over the production up to waste or recycling. From this, manifold questions arise, which can only be answered in an interdisciplinary surrounding and with creative solutions. With this background, the Resource Lab at the University of Augsburg deals with the identification of critical raw materials in central functional components of technological products, with their substitution by sustainably available raw materials and the implementation of a circular economy.

In order to solve these challenges the Resource Lab is composed of an interdisciplinary team of industrial engineers, economists, material scientists, physicists, chemists, geographers and computer scientists. This way, application-oriented solutions based on most recent scientific discovery arise for the implementation of sustainable production and energy systems.
